Elementary Program

The elementary program is designed to prepare children for independent work, to utilize basic academic skills, to observe their environment, and to cooperate in a community.

All Federal and State academic requirements are met and often exceeded with the structure of an elementary Montessori education. Each class has a Montessori Head Teacher and full time assistant teacher. Children work both individually and in small groups where various ages work together. By doing so, the older children are able to gain a greater understanding of what they have learned, and the younger children are inspired to emulate the older children.

The program builds on the previous preparation of the 3 year primary program. All subject areas are introduced and form an interconnected curriculum. The inquisitive preschool student evolves into a curious explorer with an infinite imagination who wants to know not only "why?" - but how, what, where, who and when. The child is still needing concrete learning tools that help her move to abstract thought.

Socially, through class meetings and working in small groups, group awareness and empathy develop. Group assignments and accomplishments lead to respect for the contributions of others, a willingness to help, tolerance for individual differences and doing ones' best in a common effort.
