STAFF DETAILS - JACARANDA

Sid was born and raised in Cape Town, South Africa. She graduated from the University of Cape Town with a Bachelor of Sociology. Her first job out of college was as an Assistant Fashion Buyer. Later she completed her Montessori training (A.M.I.) in London. She has lived and taught in the United States for the past 18 years, over 16 of them here at GLM as a head teacher in one of our Primary classes. She believes in teaching mindfully and artfully, with the whole child in mind. Sid also works in administration as the Assistant Head of School which includes providing on-going professional development for staff and their teams. Her commitment to the Montessori philosophy has included working with adults as a teacher trainer, as well as with families as a parent educator. Sid's favorite things to do include travel to faraway places, spending time with her family and being in any kind of nature. She has recently taken up running for fun.

SHAHIDA SALEEM

Support Teacher

Shahida was born in Pakistan, where she attended Lahore College. In 1994 she received her B.A. in Economics and in 1996 her M.A. in Urdu (Lit) from Government College Lahore. She came to the U.S. in 1996 and took Child Development classes at the Association of Childhood Services in Oakland. In 2007 her dreams came true when she completed her Montessori training at the Montessori Institute of Advanced Studies and is now a Montessori teacher. Shahida believes that the purpose of Montessori education is to help children become independent, self-directed and confident in themselves. Her aim is to help children become better human beings. She has 4 brothers and speaks 4 different languages! She loves reading, listening to music, wearing clothing from her country and smiling!



 

JOYCE EDINGTON

Support Teacher

Joyce studied early childhood education at Merritt College, and participated In a Round Table innovative teacher’s project at Mills College. For 13 years she operated a family day care in her home, and for another 12 years was the Program Director/Teacher in a preschool. She is the mother of 2 sons, the first of which has 2 energetic boys. She enjoys music, cooking, reading and sketching. She started at GLM in the Brown Cottage with the toddlers for 2 years and then moved to the Jacaranda classroom.
