GRAND LAKE MONTESSORI
SUMMER PROGRAM
Session 5, August 16 - 20
Final summer calendar:
Friday, August 20th – Jumper, all day, last day of summer program & end of summer Take A Break (by sign-up)
August 23rd – 31st is Staff Prep week at GLM. There will be no camp program, school or childcare during this time.
Tuesday, August 31st – Drop In visit for elementary students, 3 – 4 pm
Wednesday, September 1st – First day of school!
The children have been enjoying their summer activities at GLM. We have been taking advantage of the warm afternoons for water play, and the shady arbor for clay works.
We’ve had lots of visitors this summer, and recently the children were treated to a “Benny’s Magic” performance. We watched Benny pull a live dove out of a hat that appeared empty, interlock and unlock plain old hula hoops in amazing patterns, take wacky photos with his unpredictable camera, and persuade teachers to wear colored balls on their noses!
We’ve all had lots of fun and are sorry to see the summer, activities, and guests come to an end!

VISITING GUEST
Please welcome Triny Moya, from Chacala, Mexico, as a special guest this summer. Ms. Moya worked with us last summer and has returned as a summer guest of the Campbell family. She has been sharing songs and games from Mexico and doing cooking projects with the children; home-made tortillas!. She teaches Spanish/English in her native Mexico.
TAKE A BREAK LUNCH NOW STARS PIZZA PAZZA!
GLM’s Friday hot lunch program will resume on September 17, 2004. We will be using Pizza Pazza (located at 3905 Piedmont Ave., 510-653-0157) this year. Their pizzas are made with organic flour and extra virgin olive oil. The children will also be served fresh fruit and carrots with the lunch. We will not be offering chicken nuggets or veggie burgers. GLM has had to increase the price from $4.00 to $5.00 per lunch.
A special end of summer TAB is being offered for August 20th. Please contact the school office if you need a sign-up form. Forms must be submitted by Wednesday afternoon, so the pizzas can be ordered Thursday morning.
If you would like information about helping with the Friday lunches during the school year contact Joanna Pugliese at 510-836-4313. Time spent volunteering on TAB will be applied toward Parent Participation Hours!
PARENTS NIGHT OUT
Ms. Leck is hosting a PNO on Saturday, August 21st, from 6 pm to 11 pm. Children should arrive in their PJs, and bring a sleeping bag. A snack, crafts and a movie will be provided. The cost is $35.00 for one child and $55.00 for two. Children must be at least 2.5 years old.
An organic pizza will be served for dinner. If you would like your child to participate in the dinner please confirm by adding $3.00 to your check.

LIVE IN CHILDCARE POSITION
Seeking a live-in childcare person to care for a six-year old child. The position would be paid in room/board/salary for about 10-15 hrs per week in childcare, primarily in the evenings and pick-up from school. The room would be own bedroom & bath. House is 3 bdrm, 2.5 bath, with living room, dining area, playroom, 2 car garage, backyard with view of 3 bridges. The development includes a pool and clubhouse. Drug-free household. Ideally, a teacher or other professional who is saving for a house of her own, or a student who would be able to live-in during her 4 years of college. Must have references. CAT SEEKING HOME
A very pretty, sweet cat (young female?) has moved into the Live Oak lunch area, hoping to be adopted. If you have room in your home & heart to rescue her, GLM will pay for neutering/spaying. Please call the school office!
