PARENTS NIGHT OUT (PNO)
Ms. Leck is hosting a PNO on Saturday, Dec. 4, from 6 pm to 11 pm, in the Jacaranda classroom. Children should arrive in their PJs, and bring a sleeping bag. A snack, crafts and a movie will be provided. The cost is $35.00 for one child and $55.00 for two. Children must be at least 2.5 years old.
An organic pizza will be served for dinner. If you would like your child to participate in the dinner please confirm by adding $3.00 to your check.

SOUND OF THE WEEK Each Wednesday your child is encouraged, with your help, to find an object at home (preferably not a toy) that begins with the sound of the week. Put it in a labeled bag to share with your child’s class. The sound for next week is “L”, as in Leaf, Love, and Lamp.
OPERA DVDS
Some families have yet to pick up their copy of the opera DVD, On The Road to Freedom. If you ordered the DVD, please stop by either school office for your copy.
BOXTOPS FOR EDUCATION
Thank you to the families who regularly clip the coupons and turn them in! We’ve been getting A LOT! Keep collecting those little coupons from General Mills products! GLM school gets cash for the coupons, so fill up the collections jars (at each campus)!
CLASS News
LIVE OAK
A message from Ms. Bright: “I would like to thank the staff at GLM for all of your support while I was away. Thank you to the Live Oak children who called me and shared kind words to help me be a part of the class during my time away. I am also very grateful to be in the thoughts and minds of people I share most of my time and energy with. It is truly very appreciated!”
Welcome back! We hope you all had a warm and wonderful Thanksgiving! Thank you to everyone for their contributions to our class feast! With delicious Stone Soup, cornbread, and pumpkin pie, it was a tremendous and fun success! We are now in the homestretch with less than three week to go before our Holiday Break!
The classroom is a hive of activity as we prepare for our Holiday Sing on Dec. 13, as well as all the other fun and SECRET things we prepare this time of year. If you have any special holiday traditions, foods, or stories you’d like to share with us, please let us know. We’d love to have you join us!
As the weather has turned noticeably colder, be sure to send your child to school in warm clothing and shoes. We are always outside during the day unless it is raining. And please, please, please, LABEL all clothing items! Thank you!
GINKGO
We would like to thank all the Ginkgo families for contributing to our feast! We prepared everything ourselves, then sat with each other, recited our Thanksgiving poem and enjoyed all the delicious food!
The children have been sharing their family photos and talking about their family members. They were surprised to learn that teachers have parents and siblings, too!
Please mark your calendars for our class Sing-Along on Dec. 10, at 7 pm. The children have been practicing their songs to sing at this all-family event!
Thank you to Laila’s family for celebrating her birthday with us and giving our class the book, “If You Give a Moose a Muffin”. The children really liked the delightful humor in the story!
Thank you also to Arai’s family for taking such good care of our parakeets over the long weekend!
In Second Step we talked about what it means to do something “on purpose” or “by accident”. The children discussed how sometimes things happen that we don’t intend. It is important to say “It was an accident”, because people may think you did it on purpose if you don’t explain. Everyone has accidents at some time or another.
MAGNOLIA
Welcome back, everyone, from the wonderful long weekend!
A big thank you to Adrienne (Brendan’s mom), Sherri (Colby’s mom), Andrea (Mia’s mom), Zack (Eva’s dad), and Catherine (Nora’s mom) for helping us during our Friendship Feast! The children really enjoyed participating in the meal preparation, drying dishes, arranging flowers, setting tables and of course, eating!
Ms. Santiago had a successful surgery last week and is recuperating at her sister’s house. The children are working on a card with all their handprints on it to send to her. She will be out the rest of December. We all wish her well! Ms. Stewart, a substitute from Childcare Careers, has been helping our class, and will continue to be with us until Ms. Santiago’s return.
Our class winter Sing-Along will be on Thursday, Dec. 16, from 6:30-7:30 pm. The children have begun practicing their songs already, and are quite excited about the upcoming performance!
This week for Sound of the Week we had many fun items including Kiwis to share from Matthew, and fruit Kabobs from Sam!
CAMELLIA
Wow, it’s almost the end of the year! We hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!
We want to thank all the parents who came and helped with our feast. It was a fantastic success, and so much food! Thank you to Samuel’s mom, Elizabeth, for the pies, and to Ben’s mom, Joanne, for doing the wonderful art project, Fall Trees, with the children!
Attention! The Camellia Sing-Along will be Dec. 10, from 6:30 to 7:30. There will be a finger food sign up list on the clipboard. Hope to see everyone there!
We are learning a new song for the season:
Build a little snowman, round and fat.
Find a carrot nose and an old straw hat.
Now, my little snowman, won’t you stay?
Out comes the sun and he melts away!
MULBERRY
“Help me to do it myself!”
We are continually working to help the children do things for themselves; put on their shoes, coats, pull up pants, unpack their lunches, pour their drinks, etc. Parents, you can help your child by encouraging independence at home, too!
Thank you to Heather, Eugenie and Crossley for coming and helping with our Thanksgiving feast preparations. The children grated cheese for macaroni and made cornbread, ate carrot cake, carrots and homemade butter.
Two songs of the week this week:
Put a song in your heart for Christmas,
Tis the season of love and life.
Hang a wreath, trim a tree, as we carol merrily.
Put a song in your heart for Christmas!
AND
I have a little dreidel, I made it out of clay.
And when it’s dry and ready, with my dreidel I will play.
Oh, dreidel, dreidel, dreidel, little top that spins,
The children all are happy when Chanukah begins!
Don’t forget to come to our Holiday Sing on Dec. 10, from 5 – 6 pm. Please bring a finger food to share (no nuts!). This event is for the entire family!
JUNIPER
We have really been enjoying art lessons, which include painting, history and experiencing art through various mediums. Visiting museums is a great family outing! Shane and his family recently went to the Museum of Modern Art in San Francisco. Shane had a lot to say about the trip: “I had a lot of fun going through all the halls of wonderful paintings and sculptures. We viewed the artist Diego Rivera that we talked about in class. There was another artist that mommy and daddy pointed out to me. His name was Pablo Picasso. I had a wonderful time at the museum and can’t wait to return again!”
Mark your calendars and save the date for our class Holiday Share and Sing: Wednesday, Dec. 8, from 6:30 – 7:30 pm. Share your voice through song, and share your favorite finger food or beverage! This class event is for the whole family, so see you all there!
JACARANDA
We hope you all had a good, peaceful holiday! Our Thanksgiving feast went very well. The table was carefully set by the older children and decorated by the beautiful floral arrangements the children created. Thank you to Laura and Steve (Camille’s mom and dad) for bringing this wonderful flower arranging project to our class. The children ate very well, inspired by the fact they had made the entire feast themselves! A big thank you to Ed, Marina’s dad, and Wilma, Caleb’s mom, for their help in preparing the food. The teachers were so grateful for their support and help during a very busy two days.
Are your children singing holiday songs at home? We are practicing everyday for our Holiday Sing-Along, scheduled for Thursday Dec. 9, at 6:30 pm. The whole family is welcome! Please bring a potluck contribution – the sign-up is on the clipboard. We hope you will join us in celebrating the season!
REDWOOD
Welcome back! I hope everyone had a great holiday!
We had a fantastic feast! Thank you so much to our room parents, Noemi de Guzman and Mariana Harris, for all of the e-mailing to help make the feast possible! The children did such a remarkable job cooking all of the food!
We would like to thank everyone for helping make the food drive a success. The children had more than ten large boxes full of food that we delivered. The children planned and executed the entire food drive themselves. It was amazing to watch their looks of pride as they unloaded the van! Even more amazing was seeing the utterly shocked faces of the staff at Holy Family Day Home when they saw the amount of food and learned that the children had done all the work! I am very proud of them for wanting to do this project!
