SUMMER IS OVER!Hard to believe but summer is over. We’ve had a blast – lots of water play, great visitors (this week we were introduced to a King Cheetah, Siberian Lynx, an Ocelot, and an African Serval), afternoons spent in our outdoor classrooms, and a bounce tent to wrap the season up.
Next week is Staff Week (8/21 – 8/25). We will be closed for meetings, in-services, repairs and maintenance. We will also be closed 8/28 and 8/29 for visits with new children only. The first day of school is Wednesday, Aug. 30. See you then!
LOST AND FOUNDThere is a tremendous amount of unlabeled clothing that has been unclaimed. During staff week (next week) all the items will be on a table in the lawn area. You are welcome to come by to see if anything belongs to your child. All clothing left after staff week will be donated to charity. Brown Cottage lost and found will be in a box outside of the kitchen.
FREE PASSES TO SANTA CRUZ BEACH BOARDWALKWe still have a few passes to the boardwalk in Santa Cruz, which do not expire until October 22, 2006. Quantity is limited, so contact the school office ASAP if you would like some (up to 4 per family).
NANNY SHAREThe Theut family (pronounced toyt) has a loving, fun and responsible nanny they’d like to share with another family. Lupe has been with the Theut’s for 5 years. She is available (all yours) in the mornings, five days per week; or if you’re looking for full-time care the Theut girls, Olivia and Charlotte, would overlap with your child in the afternoons. Eager to start Sept. 5th. Please email Jen Colton Theut at colton@flashpointpr.com.

LAKE PARK CAMPUS (Magnolia, Ginkgo, Live Oak)
Where did the summer go? It seems as if the flow just began and now it’s over.
It was a great summer….the children loved gardening everyday and having wonderful lessons to work on outside. Everyone especially loved squeezing lemons and limes for drinks, making grape jam (actually it came out syrup) and cutting strawberries for freezing. It was really fun to meet all the children from the other classes and spend time with the teachers and all their wonderful ideas. It was also great to get to know more families. Summer at GLM is also the time to meet new children and their families. It was a very busy summer and we welcome all the new families to Lake Park.
The Dellis family donated and apple corer and peeler and the children enjoyed using it to make an apple crisp for the afternoon snack.
The Magnolia classroom was used for the assembly featuring big cats. The children (and staff) felt very privileged to have such exotic, beautiful animals in their presence.
Now as summer ends and the fall session begins please prepare your children for the change. Class begins promptly at 8:30. Now as summer ends and the fall session begins please prepare your children for the change. Class begins promptly at 8:30. To be respectful of the children's space and work we ask that you not come into to classroom after that time. We have a reading corner at the top of the stairs for Live Oak and Ginkgo as well as the goodbye window and of course if needed a teacher will be on hand to help. For Magnolia there will be a bench at the top of the stairs outside the double doors to say good-byes.
And now, sadly, we have to say goodbye to the children who are moving on to new places. We will miss them but wish them well. Have a great break and we will see you on the first day of school.
UPPER CAMPUS(Jacaranda, Juniper)
Another fun summer is over and boy, was it a good one! The children really enjoyed the sharing of space and the freedom to move between the 2 classrooms. They also got to know their friends in other classes as well as other classroom teachers. The teachers too, really enjoyed the collaboration as they were provided the opportunity to share in ideas as well as get to know other children and families more intimately.
It will be very helpful to your child to remind them that as we near the beginning of the school year, there will be some changes to their routine, that they will be back in their respective classrooms with their specific classroom family.
Please be mindful that the school day begins at 8.30am and you will need to be prepared to drop your child off at the entrance of their classroom. No more sleeping in.....!
We ask that you please do not come into the classroom out of respect for the children's space. We will always have a teacher available to help with a goodbye if necessary...a little wave to indicate that you might need help is always good. Any messages you need to give to the teachers are best kept brief or delivered to us in a note. We know drop off can be a social time for adults too and we always encourage community building, but again ask you to respect the children's space, say your goodbyes and then have your conversations on your way out to your cars.
Goodbyes are in order as we waved farewell to many children this week: Gavin Baird, Laura Bryan, Lily Price, Jordan Jung and Zara Organista. We wish them much luck and happiness and welcome them back any time for a visit!
Have a great break and look out for more emails in the next week pertaining to the beginning of the school year. We look so forward to another new beginning together.
BROWN COTTAGE(Mulberry, Camellia)
Summer went by so fast! We had a wonderful time with all our guests, including the amazing bubble man. He made many different kinds of bubbles, and the children laughed and howled at his antics. Every child who wanted to was put in a bubble! We also had a visit from Leopards, Etc. who brought cats; not domestic, pet cats, but wild cats. The children were fascinated, especially with the Serval that could jump 12 feet straight up in the air to catch birds. All the cats were very beautiful.
Friendly reminder that class starts at 8:45 am. If you need help with the good-bye please ask a teacher for assistance. Be sure to check your Parent Pocket in the hallway for information, and be sure you sign your children in and out on the clipboard (this is a licensing requirement). Thank you. If you have any questions, please feel free to talk to the Brown Cottage staff.
Reminder: Next week GLM is closed for staff week, August 21 to 25. There will be NO childcare provided. We are also closed Aug. 28 & 29 for visits with new children only.
