Grand Lake Montessori, founded in 1978, is a thriving urban school in the Grand Lake neighborhood of Oakland, California. We serve approximately 175 families and our school has two toddler classrooms, six primary (preschool) classrooms and one elementary classroom. We offer a warm, passionate and supportive community, as diverse as is the exciting city of Oakland. Lead Elementary Teacher

Grand Lake Montessori is seeking a highly motivated individual with a passion for Montessori education to lead our 6-12 Elementary classroom, currently in its second year. The classroom has a strong and supportive community of founding parents who are highly committed to Montessori elementary education, as well as a robust classroom culture amongst the students, making an inspiring learning environment for teachers. This position will begin in August 2018 for the 2018-2019 school year.


  • A Bachelor’s Degree
  • Montessori Elementary (6-12) training and certification
  • Previous educational experience preferably with elementary age children
  • Highly motivated
  • Professional, prompt and punctual
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently, as well as with others
  • Ability to build and maintain a safe, harmonious and strong classroom environment and culture
  • Ability to guide and work collaboratively with the existing support teacher and build a strong teaching team
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other staff members
  • Strong interpersonal, presentation, written and verbal communication skills

Floating Teacher

We are currently hiring a full (or part) time Floating Teacher (substitute) to start immediately. All applicants must have at least 12 Early Childhood Units and preferably previous classroom experience. Additional Montessori experience is a big plus. Regardless of your training or experience, we ask that you come with a strong desire to learn, as well as be open to supportive mentoring by both our teachers and administration. We expect our staff to be committed to a friendly, empathetic and professional relationship with both their co-workers and the families at our school.
