Art Studio

At Grand Lake Montessori, we are fortunate to host an independent art studio that offers students access to a wide range of sensory centers, small- and large-motor art activities, and open-ended building materials. Students visit the outdoor art studio weekly and it serves as an extension to the art activities in each classroom. The art guides plan activities that connect to the different subjects and celebrations the children learn about throughout the year.
With an emphasis on sustainability, children use recyclable materials whenever possible. By providing activities for every learning style, the studio nurtures independence, confidence, and self-expression. Our art guides invite both Primary and Toddler-aged students to engage in a process-based curriculum.
Each month, a different artist is featured as a platform for studying genres of expression, cultural context, art styles, history, and the elements of art. Students create paintings, jewelry, mobiles, self-portraits, small sculptures, large installations, and more. The art studio offers an enriching experience that emphasizes freedom of choice and encourages exploration.
At the end of the year, the program culminates in an art show where all student work is collected and exhibited, accompanied by detailed stories of each technique or art movement. The show celebrates every student’s identity, self-expression, and creativity.
